Microsoft Windows XP
About this item
Windows XP, released by Microsoft in October 2001, is arguably the most beloved operating system ever made. It combined the stability of Windows 2000 with a consumer-friendly interface, and its iconic Bliss wallpaper became one of the most viewed photographs in history. XP remained the dominant desktop OS for over a decade.
Sealed retail boxes of Windows XP are increasingly collectible. The Professional edition is more valuable than Home Edition, and the original 2001 release (pre-SP1) is rarer than later SP2 bundles. Look for the distinctive green and blue retail box with the holographic Microsoft certificate. European multilingual editions in Dutch, German, French, and Italian are commonly found on Marktplaats and Vinted.
When buying secondhand, verify the holographic certificate of authenticity is present and undamaged. Check that the original CD and product key card are included — many listings sell just the disc or just the license. Sealed copies in original shrink wrap command the highest prices, especially the original 2001 release without service pack branding on the box.
