Taiyo Typhoon Hovercraft

The Taiyo Typhoon is the legendary RC hovercraft that dominated living rooms and back gardens across the Netherlands in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Made by Japanese toy manufacturer Taiyo (distributed as Tyco in some markets), the Typhoon was one of the first affordable radio-controlled hovercrafts — a toy that actually worked on water, land, and smooth surfaces.

Multiple versions were produced: the original Typhoon, the Jet Typhoon, and the Typhoon 2 with a turbo 9.6V motor. All are tracked together. The distinctive skirt design, turbine sound, and oversized proportions made it unforgettable. Working units trade between €60 and €175, while mint-in-box examples reach €250 and beyond.
