TMNT Bebop (1988)

Bebop is one of the most iconic villains from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy line by Playmates, released in 1988. A mutated warthog punk rocker with a mohawk and a bad attitude, Bebop was the bumbling muscle alongside his partner Rocksteady. The figure came with accessories including a belt of grenades, a turtle-shell shield, and his signature sickle.

The original 1988 TMNT figures are the foundation of the entire Playmates action figure empire, and Bebop is one of the most recognizable characters in the line. Loose figures are common — these toys were played with hard — but finding one complete with all original accessories is genuinely challenging. Carded (sealed on the original blister card) examples are serious collector's pieces.

When buying loose, check that the accessories are original — reproduction weapons are widespread in the TMNT market. The figure's paint, especially on the mohawk and nose ring, wears easily. Tight joints and intact paint are signs of a well-kept figure. For carded versions, check the card for creases, yellowing of the bubble, and whether the bubble is still firmly attached. The 1988 card back with the original character roster is the first edition to look for.
