This is the grail card of the hobby. Prices range wildly based on condition and grading — a PSA 10 gem mint copy is a five-figure card, while a played-condition ungraded copy is still worth collecting. First edition shadowless prints sit at the very top, followed by shadowless unlimited, then the standard unlimited print. Even the less pristine copies hold strong value because demand never lets up.

Condition is everything. Look for centering on both front and back, check the edges for whitening under good light, and examine the holo surface for scratches. Be very cautious about fakes — the Base Set Charizard is one of the most counterfeited cards in existence. If you're spending serious money, buy graded from a reputable source or verify authenticity in person.
