Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division is the 1979 debut that defined post-punk. Peter Saville's cover design — the stacked radio pulsar waves on black — is one of the most reproduced album covers in history, appearing on t-shirts, posters, and tattoos worldwide. Original UK pressings on Factory Records (FACT 10) are the collector's target. Early pressings have a textured sleeve and specific label details that later reissues lack. The album has been reissued extensively — Rhino, Warner, and various 180g audiophile editions are all readily available. First pressings are where the money is.
The all-black sleeve shows every scuff and scratch, so cover condition is especially visible. Check for the textured finish on early copies. Verify Factory Records catalog number and label details.
