Pokémon Mewtwo Base Set

Mewtwo (10/102) is one of the most iconic holographic cards from the 1999 Pokémon Base Set. The genetically engineered psychic Pokémon captured imaginations through the anime film and became one of the most sought-after pulls from Base Set booster packs. The card's artwork by Ken Sugimori depicts Mewtwo in its classic floating pose.

Base Set Mewtwo holos are more affordable than the starter trio (Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur) but are climbing steadily in value. The 1st Edition Shadowless version is the most valuable, while the Unlimited printing offers an accessible entry point for collectors. European editions in Italian, Dutch, German, French, and Spanish are widely available on Vinted and Marktplaats.

When buying secondhand, check the holographic surface under light for scratching — Mewtwo's purple artwork shows wear prominently. Examine the card back for whitening along edges and look for print lines across the holo, which are common in Base Set cards but affect grade. Verify the card is not a proxy by checking for the blue core layer at the card's edge.
