About this item
The Psion Series 5mx is a 1999 handheld PDA that was years ahead of its time — a full QWERTY keyboard, 16MB RAM, EPOC operating system, and a design that still looks elegant today. It was the tool of choice for journalists, business travelers, and early mobile computing enthusiasts across Europe.
Collectibility has surged as the retro PDA scene grows. The 5mx is considered the peak of the Psion line — better build quality than the Series 5, more refined software, and a hinge mechanism that engineers still study. Complete boxed units with stylus, manuals, and serial cable command the highest prices.
When buying, test the hinge carefully — it's the most common failure point. Screen cables can also degrade, causing display flickering. Working units with a clean screen and responsive keyboard are worth paying a premium for. The 5mx Pro variant (32MB RAM) is rarer and fetches significantly more.
