About this item
The Ray-Ban Wayfarer is the most iconic sunglasses design of the 20th century. Originally launched in 1956, it had a massive resurgence in the 1980s after Tom Cruise wore them in Risky Business (1983) and Top Gun (1986). The black trapezoidal frame became the symbol of cool — worn by Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Madonna, the Blues Brothers, and every kid who wanted to look like them.
The vintage Wayfarers from the 80s — particularly the original Bausch & Lomb made-in-USA versions before Luxottica acquired Ray-Ban in 1999 — are highly collectible. Authentic vintage pieces have nuances in the hinges, lens engraving, and frame markings. Original B&L Wayfarers trade between €60 and €250, while rare colourways and pristine condition examples command higher prices.
