Thunderdome VIII - The Devil in Disguise

1995–1999

About this item

Thunderdome VIII — The Devil in Disguise dropped in mid-1995, when the series had grown into a massive commercial juggernaut. The Thunderdome name was everywhere in the Netherlands — on merchandise, at events drawing tens of thousands, and dominating music retail charts. This double CD captures the sound of gabber at full industrial scale: big productions, established artists, and a level of polish that would have been unthinkable just two years earlier. The raw chaos of the early volumes had given way to a confident, stadium-ready intensity.

Collectibility for Volume VIII is driven more by completism and nostalgia than by scarcity. The large print runs of the mid-series volumes mean supply is reasonable, but that does not make them undesirable — a complete run of Thunderdome CDs is an impressive collection, and Part VIII is essential to that goal. The 1995 volumes also hold particular sentimental value for a generation that came of age during gabber's peak years. As that generation enters its collecting prime, demand for these specific editions remains consistent.

Finding a copy is not difficult; finding a good copy requires the usual diligence. Both CDs should be present and free of deep scratches. The booklet and jewel case should be complete — missing or heavily damaged artwork diminishes value even on higher-numbered volumes. Watch for copies that have been stored poorly, showing signs of moisture damage or disc rot. At the price point these typically trade at, there is no reason to settle for a rough copy when clean examples appear regularly on the secondhand market.
