About this item
Asterix (1991) is one of the purest PAL exclusives in console history — a Sega-developed platformer for the Master System that was never released in Japan or the United States, because the licence meant nothing outside Europe.
That makes it an unusually clean measure of the European secondhand market: there is no US or Japanese supply to distort it, and no import tier. It sold in large numbers across France, Germany, Benelux and the UK, so copies are plentiful and prices sit at the accessible end.
When buying, the difference between a loose cartridge and a complete boxed copy with manual is most of the value at this level. Master System boxes are thin card and crush easily, so check the corners and spine. Note that Asterix also appeared on Mega Drive, Game Gear, SNES and home computers — this index tracks the Master System release only.
