About this item
Castlevania: The New Generation is the European Sega Mega Drive entry in Konami's iconic vampire-hunting franchise, released in 1994 (and known as Castlevania: Bloodlines in North America). It's set in 1917 against the backdrop of World War I, with two playable Belmont-descended heroes — John Morris with the classic whip, and Eric Lecarde with a spear that grants extra mobility. Each character takes a different path through the stages.
This game holds a unique spot in the Castlevania catalog: it's the only entry in the main series released on Sega 16-bit hardware. Because Konami were primarily a Nintendo developer, PAL Mega Drive copies had a smaller print run than their Super Nintendo siblings, which makes complete-in-box European versions notably harder to find on the secondhand market.
Value swings heavily on completeness. A CIB copy with the manual, inlay card and undamaged cardboard sleeve is worth multiples of a loose cartridge. Look for unfaded label artwork, an intact ratings sticker, and a battery save that still holds — collector-grade copies often command a premium above the median.
