About this item

The PC big box is bought for the box, so its condition is the price — crushed corners and a missing disc sleeve take a listing straight to the bottom of the range. Final Fantasy VII in its original 1997 PC big box release is a landmark piece of gaming history in physical form. While the PlayStation version gets most of the attention, the PC port — released shortly after in a massive trapezoid-shaped box containing four CDs, a thick manual, and often a bonus disc — is a collector's item in its own right. This was many European PC gamers' first encounter with JRPGs, and it changed everything.

The big box PC version of FF7 occupies a unique niche in collecting. It's rarer than the PS1 version (far fewer copies were sold), the packaging is dramatically larger and more visually striking, and it represents an era when PC games came in shelf-dominating cardboard boxes with real manuals and physical media. For anyone collecting big box PC games or Final Fantasy memorabilia, this is a crown jewel.

Condition of the trapezoid box is everything — it's an unusual shape that doesn't stack well, so crushing and shelf wear are extremely common. Check all four CDs for scratches and make sure none are missing. The manual should be complete and unwritten-in. Some versions included a bonus "making of" disc or reference card — verify what should be included for your specific regional release. The install guide and any Eidos inserts add completeness. Watch for water damage on the cardboard, especially along the bottom edges. A genuinely clean big box FF7 PC is one of the harder finds in retro PC collecting.
