About this item
Guardian Heroes (1996) is Treasure's side-scrolling brawler for the Saturn — a beat-em-up with RPG levelling, branching story paths and a six-player versus mode, widely held to be one of the best games in the genre.
Treasure's Saturn output is the reason a good part of the collector interest in the console exists at all, and Guardian Heroes is the most prominent of it. PAL copies are genuinely scarce, and prices have climbed steadily as the Saturn's reputation has been reassessed.
When buying, confirm the manual is present — it is missing more often than not at this price level and accounts for a large share of the difference between a loose and a complete copy. The 2011 Xbox Live Arcade HD remake shares the name and is unrelated. Japanese imports typically sell around 30% below PAL copies — the Saturn was a hit in Japan and a commercial failure in Europe, so PAL print runs were small and the scarcity is regional rather than absolute. Listings frequently do not state a region, so check the photo for the spine and box art before comparing prices.
