About this item

The Sony Watchman is the pocket-sized portable television that defined 1980s gadget culture. First launched in 1982, its miniature black-and-white flat CRT squeezed a working TV into something you could hold in one hand — a genuine feat of Sony miniaturisation in the tradition of the Walkman.

Today the Watchman is a pure collector's object. Since the analog broadcast switch-off these sets can no longer receive live TV, so their value is entirely nostalgic and design-driven — a textbook 'dead-format' collectible: obsolete, iconic, and increasingly scarce in working condition.

This index tracks the classic black-and-white CRT models (the FD-10, FD-40, and the 'Voyager' FD-20 line) across EU marketplaces, excluding the later LCD colour Watchmans and spare-parts listings so the median reflects a real, comparable device.
