About this item
Link: The Faces of Evil for Philips CD-i is the most infamous Zelda game ever made — and that's exactly why collectors want it. The 1993 side-scroller, developed by Animation Magic, features the same legendarily awful cut-scenes as its companion title Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon. Internet meme culture turned these games into icons.
As a licensed Nintendo title on the CD-i, scarcity is built in. The platform sold poorly, and most owners didn't buy many games. Complete copies with long-box case and manual are the premium tier. The game is more of a display piece and talking point than something you'd play seriously — but that's the appeal.
Check the disc for bronzing: discs pressed at PDO Blackburn between 1988 and 1993 — etched "Made in U.K. by PDO" — can corrode, showing a bronze tint from the outer edge inward when held to light. Other pressing plants are not affected, so it is worth reading the etching rather than assuming. Hold the disc to light and check for pinholes or clouding. The long-box case is fragile — cracked hinges are common. Verify the manual is present and matches the region. Loose discs circulate cheaply but miss the point of collecting this title.
